Lets Reflect! Labor Rights and the President’s Administration

On the eve of leaving office, can you reflect on the impact of the Trump Administration on labor rights? In 2018, for example, the Supreme Court, in a 5-to-4 decision, overturned a 40-year-old precedent that it was unconstitutional to allow public employee unions to require collective-bargaining fees from workers who choose not to join the union. Was it a fair ruling for public workers and public worker unions? Or How did Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia, the son of the late Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Antonin Scalia, impact labor rights?

Alternatively, what are the promises of the Biden Administration on labor rights? Earlier this month, President-elect Joe Biden tapped Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, a Biden ally with deep ties to unions, as his labor secretary. Under COVID-19, Marty Walsh, a Boston-native, faces some of the hardest challenges to protect front-line workers and low-wage workers hardest hit by the pandemic. What issues do you think are most important he addresses in his tenure?
