Manage Your Digital Identity and Social Media Accounts

THANK YOU for joining us last Wednesday for a conversation with Professor David Unger, who helped us understand the importance of managing our digital identity and social media accounts. You may access a copy of his PowerPoint HERE.

Manage how people see the “you” that is online.

Professor Unger reminded us that the “front page” of our reputation isn’t our resume or our social media profiles–it’s what pops up in a Google search of our name. Remember, help google’s algorithm by not clicking on content you don’t want to show up for others. Consider managing the content that pops up on google searches, see here and here for resources.

Build your own digital portfolio.

Better manage the content that people see about you online is by creating it yourself! A digital portfolio allows you to showcase all aspects of your work online and have it pop up in Google searches. It also allows you to reflect on your learning and begin to building meaning and connections across your work and academic projects.

Join us for our next workshop to build your own site.

Join us Friday, February 19th for a workshop on how to set up your digital portfolio. Learn how to register on CUNY Academic Commons to begin building your digital portfolio on an entirely open-source platform. Don’t forget to have a copy of your resume and a brief biography ready to upload!
