Thanks for joining us – Showcase Your SLU Coursework

1) USE CATEGORIES. 2) DOCUMENT YOUR LEARNING PROCESS. 3) USE BLOCK EDITOR.

Thank you.

Thank you for joining us last Saturday, March 13th for our 3rd workshop of the 2021 Spring semester series, click on the button below to access a copy of our PowerPoint presentation. There are a few take away points you should keep in mind when showcasing your SLU coursework.

1. USE CATEGORIES.
They help you organize your content.

Categories will help you organize your posts by course and semester; and can be part of your site’s Menu. For example, if you are sharing your work from your URB600 course this semester, make sure to check off categories titled, 2021 Spring and URB600. If you don’t see your category, add a new Category by going to your Dashboard –> click on Posts –> from the drop down menu, click on Categories and add as many as you’d like.

Don’t stop there. Consider adding Categories that relate to your interests, based on issues or topics, such as Worker Rights or Climate Migration. Adding issue Categories will be helpful especially if you would like to showcase you’re an expert on that topic/ issue. Many of you are already experts in your fields, such as health care management and community programs. These additional Categories can be used when you reflect on work outside of your coursework too, and can also be added as Menu Items and Sub-items.

2. DOCUMENT YOUR PROCESS.
We all have unique ways of learning and completing our final course assignments.

Rather than only sharing your final course assignments, consider posting about what you learn and read along the way. Start off by thinking of your process when you prepare to write your final assignments. What steps do you take? Everyone has a process and it is different for everyone. Do you do research, identify various academic sources (book chapters, journal articles, etc), read each of them, summarize and take notes on your first impressions and then develop your writing? Consider writing posts for some of these steps along your learning and/or writing process. For example, write a post summarizing each of our academic sources and another post on your thoughts about the issue itself. Why is this issue important to study?

3. USE BLOCK EDITOR. DESIGN YOUR POSTS/ PAGES.
Design and edit your content on the newer platform.

Check out a recent post on simple instructions to help you get familiarized creating and editing content on your CUNY Commons site. Remember the best way to learn is through trial and error. Also make sure to visit our next workshop of the 2021 Spring Semester Series.
